don't be fooled by the ipod-commercial-on-crack video. the track featured above, my girls, is one of those rare songs I feel a need to burn on a CD, alone, so it can be played and replayed on my car stereo without interruption.

Andrew Bird-Noble Beast
while Animal Collective may not be for everyone, Andrew Bird is, at least should be. Bird is good music, the kind of good few artists can claim. Smart, classy, intriguing, the kind that rewards investment of time.

I hereby challenge Dustin R. Baird, to a duel of photoshop tennis!
The Rules and Regulations are as follows:
1. the match will start with a single image, "served" to the other player. the other player takes the image and manipulates it anyway they like. with photoshop, drawing, photography, whatever. the manipulated image is then returned to the other player who follows.
2. Each player will have 4 turns, (inlcluding the serve) before the match ends.
3. Each turn will last no longer than two days. (the sooner the return the better).
4. our objectives are to be humorous, or just make it look cool.
5. the returned image has to have at least one identifiable element from the previous image.
6. keeping the image in it's original size is preferred.
7. i think that's it.
8. oh, once the player finishes their work, they will post it on their respective blog.

been reading a lot of web-comics lately,
in a post Watterson and Larson comics world,
the funnies in the paper just aren't doin for me anymore.
luckily the format has found new life online.
here are some of my favourites, some a value for their writing others their illustration style.

Fun Run

Well I was still having fun when this picture was taken at the 14 mile mark. (props to Heather for the shot) Two days after running the Top of Utah Marathon, in 4 hours and 36 minutes, my legs still hurt, and "hobble" would be the best word to describe how I get around. Also, next time around, I might invest in some of these.

England hightlite #2 Ireland!

so maybe it's time I finish what I started;

upon arriving in england on wednesday, we caught a plane that night to Ireland for two days!
Ireland was a lot like what I expected, in a good way. Rolling green hills, stone walls, leprechauns and sheep everywhere. The cliffs of Moher were my favourite, just gorgeous. Marc and I walked down the coast to a ruined tower on the cliff-side. we soaked it up.
The night before we had a medieval banquet in Bunratty castle. complete with entertainers in nearly accurate felt costumes. Later we visited an ancient burial ground, pomhoeangraglelifarlen (or something not like that at all, can't quite remember that gaelic word for it). Also we learned all about Clints and Grikes! fascinating.

Hamlet
in Stratford upon Avon, performed by The Royal Shakespeare Company.
I felt quite privileged to see one of the greatest plays in history performed by world-class actors. Patrick Stewart was amazing.
I had just finished reading the play the day before, (I'm glad I did). when we first bought tickets to this production I was expecting actors in Elizabethan costume. instead the production was done in a contemporary style, which sounds like it could have been cheesy, but it was pulled off very well. Hamlet's (David Tennant) "to be or not to be" monologue sounded suprisingly fresh and effective. anyways I'm no professional theatre critic, let's just say it rocked my proverbial socks.

here's a little animation and music I did for an ad to run in local theatres before the movies. It had to match the current Mac back to school promotion. Nothing too impressive, but the little jingle/groove was fun to make. I've gone to movies a couple times lately, but i've yet to catch this on the big screen.

to answer this i've recalled some common and repeated nightmares...
-the end of the world
-death of loved ones
-being really late for a way sweet concert.

make a record, even if I own the only copy.
run a marathon in September (i've hit some obstacles, have some catchin up to do)
find a girl, i have to be honest...

3 Obsessions:

-music, occupies a vast majority of my time
-i've lately been in constant search of more intellectual sometimes trivial "No Way!" moments, the likes that are found in "RadioLab" broadcasts, TED speeches, Malcolm Gladwell books, etc.

i have purchased a canon rebel xsi. it's a lot of fun. here's some test run shots. not great photos by any means, but still some shots i couldn't take with old camera.
i'm typing with one hand due to my left arm being in a sling. very tedious. long story for another posting when i can type better.
